UNIT 7- Sustainability in Architecture.

CONCEPTS:
-Green and circular economy, three Pillars of Sustainability (Social, Economic, Environmental) Circular economy= focuses on the resource cycle, and is a model based on repair, recycling… Green economy= Improves human well-being and social equity, and its a model that integrates the sociality and conserves the ecosystems.


-How to act in a sustainable way?

Decrease the human beings’ impact on natural systems for not exceed the capacity of nature.

The use of natural resources must not exceed their rate of regeneration Compensate the nonrenewable rescuers by producing renewable resources (and eventually replace them) .

Reduce emissions into the environment.

-Life cycle analisys= (the LCA) studies the environmental impact of products, so we need to know the energy consumption and the pollution we produce by doing them. (Extractions of raw materials, manufacturing, transport, implementation, and use, its end-of-life)

-Ecological footprint= study the amount of territory needed to generate our biological resources and to absorb the waste we produce.


-The 3R rules: (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). The best is REDUCE cuz you won’t need to use the other two options if you do the first one.


-Healthy buildings= connect human biology and the environment (it must allow: correct evapotranspiration, thermal radiation, natural light…)

WHY TO PRODUCE HEALTHY BUILDINGS?

Psychological aspects: The relations with nature influences positively on us making us feel better and less stressed. 

Sick building syndrome: That set of symptoms that can degenerate into a state of chronic illness. (To avoid that we should use healthy buildings)


-Climate situation: the buildings will be built differently in the different parts of the world due to the temperature change and also the site analysis.


-Sustainable design:  Bio-Architecture (Example in Germany)= Recyclable materials, respects the environment, flexible spaces, Passive installations, water-saving, and recovery.

Bioclimatic architeture=  depends on the climatic conditions od the site and adapt the building to them.


-Constructive solutions: (Wall os Trombe):

Direct solar irradiation through the windows.

Adequate the building orientation.

Type of building that favorites natural cross-ventilation.

Promote reflections.


-Materials: try to use natural materials, but WARNING! Some times those natural materials have harmful chemicals added by humans. (Corcho con pegamentos químicos).

(EVITAR CEMENTO, mucho gasto energetico, y podemos usar la Cal, es el mismo material y tiene mas beneficios).


-Let’s not be fooled!!!! Green washes (nos timan con la sostenibilidad) Biomorphism (change in a building shape to make it look sustainable but actually is not)

Use of natural resources as a decorative resource.

Recycled materials (realmente no es lo mejor de lo mejor)
